Field Trip to Petland

Another fun field trip! This time we threw together a very last minute trip to Petland pet store.
At first the kids were even fascinated in the empty cages,

but then they noticed that guinea pigs, dogs, rabbits, birds and fish were so much more interesting!

Then it was off to lunch at Subway

where Cheetos and chocolate milk were consumed in large quantities!

Bradford wanted to make sure he got all those Cheeto crumbs off.

Eve's thumb tastes as good as any Cheeto.

Looking up for a smile was way too hard with chocolate milk right there!

Gavin was ready with a willing smile!

We had a great time together and look forward to visiting the dentist next month! Sorry it didn't work out for Maylie and James to be there. We missed you!

L is for "Love"

Love was in the air today in preschool (except on a few minor occasions, most of which involved candy!).  The kids were so excited to hand out their Valentines that we did that first and didn't even take the time to decorate their bag.

During Circle Time, our counting box held individual boxes of conversation hearts which the kids all got to open.  We then spent some time doing "heart math," i.e. counting the different colored hearts that everyone had.  Luckily, everyone got to say that they had the most of at least one color.

We read the story of the Good Samaritan from the LDS New Testament Stories and discussed what it means to love your neighbor.  We also read several other Valentine's Day books while the kids ate some of their newly acquired candy.

We made Valentine crafts including some heart-shaped "sun catchers."  The kids spooned colored crayon shavings onto waxed paper and then I used an iron to melt them.  The kids loved watching the colors mix together.

(Notice Gavin was the only one attempting to lick the crayon shaving spoons.  Yuck!)

On a side note, with the wind being so crazy, I had to run outside during lunch to catch some fleeing tarps, and ended up going a house or two down in either direction to find garbage can lids, etc.  When I came back inside it was VERY quiet.  And this is why:

Food must taste SO much better underneath the table!

Make sure to check your bags for the cards the kids made you.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Taking Care of our Bodies

Today we talked about our bodies and how they help us to wonderful things. Luckily everyone brought their body. Every kid here thinks his/her body is pretty great.
We sang Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes and If You're Happy and You Know It to experiment with different things our bodies can do.

Preschool was divided into two parts. We talked about the inside of our bodies (heart, lungs, stomach, liver, kidneys) and then we talked about the outside of our bodies (hands, head, feet, legs, tummy, shoulders).

We talked about how we need to put healthy things in our bodies (everyone dissected their lunches and divided them into healthy and unhealthy piles). Don't worry, they all ate something-- they were glad to know that even though they should eat healthy things, they could sometimes have treats too.

We also went to the park and on a LONG walk to exercise our bodies-- another way to stay healthy.

Finally we talked about keeping our bodies clean on the outside. We wash our hair, wash our bodies, and keep our teeth brushed.

Above is a picture of what our insides look like.

Time for a recap of the week........

On Tuesday we learned about Sharing. All the kids brought a toy to share during circle time. The kids really like this. It was nice to have some boy toys to play with. (Not all this pink, girlly stuff). It was a shorter lesson but they all were better about sharing during free play. For our craft we folded paper and split in half to share with a partner and then we all shared ideas to draw on the paper.

Today, we learned about Winter. we watched a few online stories: Rumble Grumble Gurgle Roar and Penguin, Penguin. I was told by the kids that they have already seen them. So sorry for a repeat kids. Next, we moved to building our own penguins. We also learned a poem. I had the kids hold up their snowflakes as we were counting out the numbers.

One little snowflake with nothing to do
Along came another, and
Then there were two.

Two little snotflakes laughingwith me.
Along came another, and
Then there were three.

Three little snowflakes looking for some more.
Along came another, and
Then there were four.

Four little snowflakes dancing a jive.
Along came another, and
Then there were five.

Five little snowflakes having so much fun.
Out came the sun, and
Then there were none!
